Assignment C: Preliminary Bibliography
In order to begin writing a preliminary bibliography, complete steps 1-4 under research paper. Then, you will write a page listing your sources in bibliographical format. For example:
Nulton, Peter E. The Sanctuary of Apollo Hypoakraios and Ancient Athens. Providence: Brown University, 2003.
Typically, bibliographical style makes use of the hanginging indent, and lists the author’s name, the name of the work (italicized or underlined in the case of a book, in quotes in the case of an article), publication date and place.
One example of proper bibliographical formatting for an article:
Parsons, A. W. “Klepsydra and the Paved Court of the Pythion.” Hesperia 12 (1943): 233-38.
Here, the part in quotes is the article title, Hesperia is italicized as it is the title of the journal, and it is followed by a volume number, date, and page numbers.
There are many variations on bibliographical style. For more information, consult one of the style manuals on the recommended books page.
